The Legacy Center is the repository for the records and heritage of Drexel University College of Medicine and its predecessor institutions, including Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania (W/MCP), Hahnemann University, and the Schools of Nursing and Allied Health affiliated with both of these schools. Our collections are particularly strong in documenting the history of women in medicine and the history of homeopathic medicine in the United States.

Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania was the first degree-granting medical school for women in the world, opening in 1850 to support women pursuing medical training when most schools would not admit women. The Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania opened in 1848 as the first school in the United States dedicated to the study of homeopathic medicine.
